Free of hip pain and concerns about aging

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes: “Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well” (p. 14).

This describes a healing I had around Easter, over a year ago. I had been suffering with a sore hip for several weeks; it was painful to walk and it felt as if bones were not moving properly as they should. I had done some praying about it, but it was still very uncomfortable, and people noticed my limp.

My normal routine includes walking four blocks uphill to church services twice a week. On one particular day, I had limped two blocks to the traffic light. It was red, so I pushed the button and waited to cross the road. Just then I had a good, honest talk with myself about the situation with my hip. “What is this belief all about? Just what is this lie? Well, it’s about age—that I am elderly and believing that I can decline over time.” I realized I was accepting the false thought that I could damage or break my hip, as my mother had.
