Why not now?
While on a late-night walk in Greece, my husband and I came across a business whose parking lot was filled with mopeds for rent. We looked them over and decided to return first thing in the morning, just a few hours later, to rent a couple. The next morning we got up early, hiked down the steep hill to the lot, and found absolutely no mopeds to rent. Where had they all gone? Were we in the right place, on the right street?
After confirming that we were standing in the exact spot where we had been standing just seven hours earlier, we stopped and looked at each other and said simultaneously, “Why not now?” Then we laughed.
This phrase, “Why not now?” was one we had picked up on during our travels in Greece. Merchants everywhere would ask this question as customers were walking out the door without buying something of interest. In short, it was a question to push the customer to a sale.
