God's husbanding love
“Thy Maker is thine husband” (Isaiah 54:5). These five words from the Bible caught my attention many years ago. I thought then and do now that it’s wonderful to know that God is the true source of all strength, comfort, healing, supply, wisdom, and loving companionship. This is something really tangible to lean on.
Some synonyms for husband are lord, master, and head of household. Perhaps some of today’s women would not be too happy with those ideas. To see them as pointing to God’s love and control over us, however, is entirely another matter. Then we can see divine Love as governing us fully and caring for our home. There’s no fear there that we would be under any human control. Only blessings can result.
In recent years, when I would notice my husband expressing the spiritual qualities of honesty, love, kindness, comfort, intelligence, and even nobility, I would say to myself, “I know, Father, that You are the one true source of all husbanding, and I thank You for sending this man as evidence of Your care.”
