Only good can go around
I teach English as a second language (ESL) classes in the evenings, and I just love my students. They work long hours at their jobs, and they also work hard in their English classes, yet they express so much joy. Whenever I look out over the class, I see broad smiles on most students’ faces.
Not long ago, a lot of the students were struggling with cold symptoms. This went on for a couple of weeks. One night a student left class sick, and several others who stayed seemed ill. I came home that night not feeling well myself.
I quickly realized that I had been mesmerized by the picture of contagious illness. A comforting thought came to me of Jesus healing a leper through his great compassion and total lack of fear of what was considered a highly contagious disease (see Matthew 8:1–4). I wanted to feel that kind of compassion and fearlessness.
