Reading the Word brings liberty

As a young mother I was attending a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and was voted in to be First Reader. I was selected while I briefly popped out of the church’s election meeting to the nursery to change my three-month-old’s diaper, coming back to smiles and the announcement of the new post I would be serving in. I was thrilled and humbled to have been chosen.

Weeks later, my Reader’s books (large editions of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy) came, and they were just lovely. I was to begin with a Wednesday evening service. I prayed and then marked in my books the citations I would read, and then several times I decided to change some of the citations, remarking my books each time. I knew that only God, the divine Mind, was guiding me, and I was given a beautiful healing lesson to read to the congregation.

But as I set my books up at the dining room table to read and practice, I froze; I had been challenged from childhood with symptoms of dyslexia. I had kept this a secret all these years.
