Many years ago there was an article in The Christian Science Monitor titled “An Agenda For Prayer” referring to The Christian Science Monitor as being an avenue for prayer for the world. But it all seemed too hard for me until recently when I read Jack Phillips’s article in the February 3, 2014, Sentinel, titled “A mission I support.” So, after reading my Christian Science Bible Lesson for the day, I picked up my Monitor and found what page I was up to—but oh dear! The page was about American politics, and I thought: “What do I know about American politics?” I was about to turn the page when I remembered Mr. Phillips’s demonstration and how he was inspired to read everything. I did, and was amazed by the inspiration that came to help my prayers regarding this article. The next day, I read another article with the same results—no more gridlock, and I think my prayers are getting more universal. Thank you sincerely, Mr. Jack Phillips, you have opened a door.

A dear Christian Science practitioner needed to remind me one day that Paul’s God-inspired and oft-called-upon assurance, in verse 28 of Romans 8, “that all things work together for good to them that love God” actually begins with the victorious “And we know”! That we need to earnestly “know” this truth is exemplified in Manuela Meier’s Sentinel article, “Accepting change” (January 27, 2014). I’d point out that the quotation marks should begin with “know,” rather than just before the word “all,” since, as Paul points out, knowing precedes beholding God’s outcome of “all things work[ing] together.” I loved the outcome of Ms. Meier’s knowing!
