Nativity
Herod could not see the star
shining above
mother and child,
heralding divine Truth.
Herod could not hear the song
of angels o’er
shepherds’ fields,
rejoicing with the dawn.
Herod did not know the Word
foretelling where
the boy would lie—
he missed the advent sign.
Ignorance is matter’s king:
its eyes are closed;
its ears are stopped;
its darkness knows Him not.
But wisdom and humility—
with ears to hear
and eyes to see—
will lead to Christ our King.
—Ben Frederick
