No overlooked solution
Huge problems. Even huger solutions. Many people yearn to see global warming in just these terms. The challenges appear immense. Can the remedies be even more so? Maybe the most promising answers are not only bigger than anyone guessed. Maybe they are closer as well.
Now, the Sentinel is not promoting or endorsing a specific course of action. But it is interesting to watch as creative ideas come to light. For example, David Milarch from Archangel Ancient Tree Archive said, “We need to reforest the planet; … To do that, it just makes sense to use the largest, oldest, most iconic trees that ever lived.” He refers here to giant redwood and sequoia trees, often found along the northern California coast. These immense trees can consume, digest, huge amounts of carbon dioxide—a key factor in global warming—way more than any other trees on the planet.
Could kindred prayer today help us glimpse towering answers, unnoticed but already present?
This and other creative ideas in some ways echo an Old Testament episode. A widow’s problems loom large. But the prophet Elisha glimpses a solution that looms even larger. The woman has one pot of oil. Could that oil be seen as symbolic of the spiritual inspiration so central to prayer-based problem solving? The widow, at the prophet’s directing, pours the pot’s contents into borrowed containers. The oil (the inspiration) multiplies. Eventually, she runs out of containers. She sells the oil, settles her debts, and eliminates the possibility of losing her two sons (see II Kings 4:1–7 ). One might say her problems were “consumed,” removed from the surrounding mental environment.
Elisha’s prayer equipped the widow to see overlooked solutions. Could kindred prayer today help us glimpse towering answers, unnoticed but already present?
Absolutely! Remember, there is a God. He is the one divine consciousness. He knows all, and is the Mind of all. He creates all good, squelches all fear, erases all inharmony. To realize these facts in one’s individual consciousness is to pray powerfully and scientifically. Mary Baker Eddy wrote in her primary work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “… Mind is the multiplier …” (p. 508 ). It is not a case of Mind multiplying matter particles. Not at all. Inspired ideas, already at hand, emanate from divine Mind and are communicated to us. Mind’s action continues its advance.
