Signs of hemorrhoids disappear
One afternoon in October 2009, when some friends came to visit me, the subject of hemorrhoids and their causes came up. I had some symptoms of this condition at the time, and I started to think a lot about those symptoms. Rather than turning to God in prayer, I focused on concerns about myself. Two days later, I started to feel pain, and I worried that the symptoms would become worse.
Christian Science teaches us that the cause of disease is not physical, but mental. I realized that I needed to defend myself mentally against thoughts of this condition. I considered passages from the Bible, such as these verses from Psalms: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. … There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling” (91:1, 10). I realized that I needed to abide in the living God for health, harmony, happiness, and peace, because in God’s government, there is no disease, inharmony, or misfortune. I recognized that only God, Life, keeps me perfect and healthy.
The problem continued, but I had perfect confidence that the truth is always victorious, and I persisted in removing the belief of the disease from my thought. I was reminded of a statement Mary Baker Eddy makes on page 400 in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “Eradicate the image of disease from the perturbed thought before it has taken tangible shape in conscious thought, alias the body, and you prevent the development of disease. This task becomes easy, if you understand that every disease is an error, and has no character nor type, except what mortal mind assigns to it. By lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth, you destroy error.”
