I could hear Christ's message

About a year ago, I noticed that a tree in my yard had limbs that were growing too close to the power lines. I had a plan to cut the tree limbs safely, but after I cut one of them off with my chain saw, the limb fell on my head. Since it was just a small limb and my head did not hurt, I continued with the project, paying closer attention to what I was doing. 

Later, as I was washing my hair, I noticed that my head was sore. I started saying “the scientific statement of being,” which is found on page 468 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It starts off with: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all.” This statement concludes by saying, “… man is not material; he is spiritual.” This helped me realize that since I am not made up of matter, I could not really be hurt. My head seemed fine after that, so I stopped thinking about it.

Several days later, though, the left side of my head became swollen and I lost all hearing in my left ear. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I knew that I first needed to prayerfully handle the situation, so I contacted a Christian Science practitioner for help. Immediately, the practitioner started praying for me and assured me that we would stand up to this error of believing I could be injured by any accident. Accidents can’t have any power over me since the only real power is God, who only gives us good. 

I slept on and off that day, but when I was awake, I continued praying, knowing that the condition wasn’t any part of my true spiritual being. God is perfect, and as a reflection of God, I must be perfect, too. I knew that to God error is nothing and has no power to make us suffer or hurt, because God is All. I rejected the fears that were trying to build up in my consciousness and replaced them with Christly thoughts. 

On page 332 of Science and Health, it says, “Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness.” I knew that Christ was speaking to me and that I could hear Christ’s message: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32 ). God made me free to be His perfect child. The practitioner had said that if I “took the side of the Christ” and really affirmed Christ’s authority to release me from injury, my freedom would be permanent. I kept knowing the truths mentioned above over and over that day as I read the Bible and Science and Health. 

That night when I answered the phone, I put the phone up to my left ear as I normally do, and I could hear the person that was on the line. I was so excited that I shouted out to the person, “I can hear!” I then explained that I had not been able to hear out of my left ear all day, but now my hearing had been perfectly restored. I no longer felt tired, and the swelling went away not long after. The healing of these conditions has been permanent.

I learned from this experience that there is no reason to doubt God’s healing care. I am so grateful to know He will always keep me safe.
