What got me started
I have been working for the past 20 years with 18 different Bible translations when reading the weekly Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. I will always be grateful to the Sunday School teacher my son had when he was in college. This teacher gave him a copy of J.B. Phillips’ The New Testament in Modern English many years ago. Looking into that book got me started seeking out new Bible translations.
The three Bible translations I enjoy working with the most are: The New Living Bible, Common English Bible, and The Message.
Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another ….
II Timothy 3:16, The Message
Of course I love the King James Version. It is the Bible I’ve always read. The poetry and familiar passages are very dear to me. However, these newer Bibles take advantage of new discoveries, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, that make them more accurate.
