Severe pain gone
Recently, I had a healing in which my son Joseph, now 11, prayed for me as a Christian Science practitioner would. I’d been experiencing severe pain in my head and eyes. When it suddenly became much worse, I called out to Joseph with the intention to ask him to dial a Christian Science practitioner for me, since my husband was out. Then I thought that I would ask him to read to me, as I was acknowledging my receptivity to divine Truth and Love.
When Joseph came in, I heard myself asking him to pray for me. His response was so immediate. He rejected the “error,” or false belief that I could become ill and separated from divine Love, in a loving but firm way and in his own words. He comforted me and sang a favorite hymn, which begins, “A grateful heart a garden is” (Ethel Wasgatt Dennis, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 3). Also, he got a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and read the description of generic man (see “What is man?” p. 475) like this: “What is Mum?” (He was very familiar with this and read it with real understanding.)
Joseph shared some psalms he had been studying in Sunday School, referred to a joke in my Bible Lesson, and then after another hymn, went off to his room, basically telling me that everything was OK and to call if I needed anything. The Christian Science treatment was finished. I took the higher spiritual viewpoint that I was being offered and was up very soon after—this was all within an hour, probably less.
