Chicken soup & prayer

Recently a new friend, visiting and about to leave, turned to me and said, “I cannot leave without asking you, Do you believe in Jesus?” I assured her I did believe in Jesus, his teachings and his healings. A sigh of relief came from her. I then asked if I had said no, what would she have said. She said she would have prayed for me. Jokingly I said, “Then you don’t pray for me because I believe in Jesus?” “Oh, no!” she said. She then asked if I would like her to pray for me. I nodded, and she took both my hands in hers and said a very brief prayer in thanks to God for looking after me. It was sweet, loving, and caring.

It all made a deep impression on me. Later I thought of the many times I had visited sick friends and neighbors and had only taken a container of homemade chicken soup or something similar, and never asked if I might pray for them.

I recalled the many healings I had experienced in my life through the power of prayer as taught in Christian Science. How little I had shared. So simple and uncomplicated to say, “Would you like me to pray for you?” Permission given, one can do just that either there or at home. Loving the opportunity and expecting healing through prayer to God for a neighbor or friend, as taught in Christian Science, what better way to open the door to the Christ?
