Back pain healed

In December 2007, I was looking forward to the reception my wife and I have at our home each year following a local Christmas carol service. There is always a lot of preparatory work to be done, and my wife and I consider the event prayerfully and spiritualize our thoughts of sharing our home. To us, our home is such a blessing that it could not be anything but God-given—so sharing it is like giving a testimony. It was with this in thought that we offered to open our home for the preceding weekend to a friend of a relative. This individual was coming across the country to attend a conference in the area.

A few days before our guest was to arrive, my back began to bother me. I had dealt with this painful condition periodically in years past, and each time the discomfort and lack of productivity had lasted for several weeks and then slowly dissipated. This time, I realized that I was being presented with the prospect of having an uninvited “guest” in my home, or my consciousness. And the presenter was not God, good. But by the time our invited guest arrived, I was in a great deal of pain and was hardly able to walk.

Of course, I was examining my thinking, since I wanted to stop letting mortal mind’s “coming attractions” preview dictate my expectations. I felt it was a fear of familiar pain that was keeping me from being able to help my wife with the preparations. (Our invited guest, however, was happy to pitch in, and her loving cheerfulness and willingness gave a supportive air to the whole situation—and she was even leaving town before the reception!)
