'A deep stillness' and relief from sickness
Whether physical healing through Christian Science treatment comes immediately or takes more time, it always brings with it such a joyous sense of divine Love’s all-presence and power. In her chapter titled “Prayer” in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy writes: “Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well” (p. 14).
I had an experience of seeing this truth demonstrated a few years ago. My husband had been suffering from a bout of stomach sickness for several days, and despite earnest prayer, severe vomiting followed whenever he ate. It had reached a stage where this was occurring even when he wasn’t eating.
At the end of a very difficult day, my husband and I were sitting in our lounge room together, and it was clear that he was very agitated. He simply couldn’t keep still because of his condition. Both of us had a lifetime of experience with the effectiveness of Christian Science treatment, having seen all of our physical challenges met through relying on God’s care. So we decided to continue to reach out to God to understand the healing truths that would bring relief.
