In this series, individuals share how taking Christian Science Primary class instruction has strengthened their spiritual understanding, and brought increasing inspiration and healing to their lives.

Nothing in the way

Although I always knew I wanted to take class instruction, things like jobs, family, and travel seemed to get in the way. Because I had been raised in the Christian Science Sunday School, was very active in branch church membership, and had experienced numerous healings, I really wondered what more I could learn. Wow, was I mistaken!

Each day of class was so intense, and the study was deep and consecrated. I felt a great sense of spiritual awakening, as though a fog was lifting and the sunlight of Truth pouring in. Sometimes the rigorous schedule of reading and study seemed a little daunting, and being separated from family for two weeks wasn’t easy. But it was the most important step I’ve ever made in my study of Christian Science. I learned to look at everything differently—prayer, reading the Bible and works by Mary Baker Eddy, studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson, and church membership. Class instruction taught me to view everyone from God’s perspective—as made in His image and likeness. As I was obedient to the duty of deep daily prayer for myself and others, each day unfolded more harmoniously. Even watching the news on television became an opportunity to refute material testimony and replace it with what God knows.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how to pray more effectively by beginning each treatment with powerful, absolute truths about God and His creation. I learned to let God pour in fresh, inspiring views of all his ideas, which I’ve found brings an adjustment in thought. The result is blessed and joyful healing.
