WHAT'S REALLY INFLUENCING ME?
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Ps. 139:23, 24).
In a world where so many outside influences can act on us for better and for worse each day, this plea to God expresses profound humility—a deliberate desire to be led only in His paths of good. This week we'll be discussing the value of cultivating that desire.
Early in her life our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, saw that the earnest longing to be only under God's influencing, as expressed in those very words of the Psalmist, served as a protecting, trustworthy, healing prayer (see Retrospection and introspection, pp. 14–15). And through her subsequent discovery of Christian Science she was able to articulate the importance of rejecting evil influences, and embracing the divine, through mental means alone.
