A WAKE-UP CALL

Last winter, I was participating in a group golf outing. While getting into a golf cart, I banged my head into the cart's roof. The pain was quite severe for a few seconds but then subsided, and I thought nothing more of it.

The next morning, I awoke with a distinct ringing in my ears and an acute loss of hearing in my right ear. Within a few days, the condition extended to my left ear and became more pronounced.

As my job requires a great deal of interaction with the public, both by the telephone and in meetings, it was crucial for me to be able to hear with sharpness and clarity, so healing was uppermost in my mind. Initially, I prayed with ideas such as this one from Science and Health: "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter,—hence their permanence" (p. 486).
