LUMP IN BREAST HEALED QUICKLY

When I was in my early 30s, I became a single mother. I intensely disliked that label because it made me feel vulnerable and terribly alone in my struggle to provide a happy life for my young son. I also struggled with feelings of failure as a woman.

One morning, I noticed a large lump on the side of one breast. For a moment I was paralyzed in fear of what this might lead to. "Oh no," I thought, "If I die, who will be here for my child?"

For years, I'd been deeply committed to the study of Christian Science. I'd learned much about God's love, which had led to the healing of illness as well as to the resolution of several practical dilemmas. Armed with the recollection of all that God had helped me with, I humbly prayed for calm—and for cure.
