CHURCH LEADERS, community leaders, and others gathered at the Hyatt Regency on Thursday [October 2] for the 26th annual Long Beach [California] Leadership Prayer Breakfast.

The breakfast, which is similar to the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, was the idea of local residents Syd Wakeling and Kermit Sutherland.

"We wanted to start an event that would have a significant and spiritual impact on the city and those who make up the city," Sutherland said.
