STEADY PRAYER AND SPIRITUAL INSIGHT BRINGS FULL FREEDOM

In August 2005, I became aware of significant difficulty with one of my knees, which appeared to be muscular in nature. I had to curtail all activity except for the basic essentials. It felt as if I'd torn something, although I don't remember any event that could have caused it and never had a medical diagnosis.

As a Christian Scientist, I am used to turning to God in prayer for every need. And I prayed by giving a specific Christian Science treatment to the situation right away. I acknowledged that God is All, is the only Cause, and that I was the effect of God.

From the start, I strove to understand and demonstrate Christian Science, which Mary Baker Eddy referred to as the "Science of man." An understanding of the facts underlying this Science results in healing and harmony in our lives. A passage from her Miscellaneous Writings 1883—1896 explains that we must". . . gain it [the Science of man] clearly; then we shall see that man cannot be separated from his perfect Principle, God, inasmuch as an idea cannot be torn apart from its fundamental basis" (p. 186).
