'MY WAY OF LIFE AND HEALING'

I was introduced to Christian Science by a young woman I'd become friendly with. Knowing there was a good possibility we'd be married, I thought I should investigate this religion. I knew nothing about it except that she'd told me that she and her family didn't go to doctors.

My family and I were very much into going to doctors, and I could see a conflict of interest if I didn't feel comfortable with my friend's way of life. So I soon went to a local library and borrowed Science and Health, which my friend had told me was, together with the Bible, the book for learning about Christian Science.

I had attended a Baptist Sunday School till about the age of 14, and though I wasn't going to church at the time, I was an avid reader of the New Testament—often late into the night. I was keen to learn more about God, and to experience His guidance in my life. However, my upbringing had made me think that conventional medicine offered the exclusive means of healing, and that people who practiced faith healing or anything like it were misguided.
