IT'S ALL ABOUT WAKING UP

As a little girl I was terrified by a dream I had of a cow staring into my bedroom window. Even though Mom said there never was a cow, I insisted on checking for weeks after that before going to bed—just to be sure.

When we dream, we're often sure we're part of a particular plot with its own characters and logical events. However, most people will concede that a dream is an unconscious gathering of mental impressions without basis in reality, and that the events are compelling only to the one dreaming.

Christian Science teaches that "God never slumbers, and His likeness never dreams" (Science and Health, p. 249). Can you imagine God napping? Since God is infinite consciousness—the one Mind—He can never be unconscious. So it naturally follows that as His likeness, we, too, cannot experience unconsciousness. Instead, we reflect alertness, confidence, poise, and grace.
