"[IN INDIA] faith is alive and kicking. Going by sheer numbers, we are a nation of believers. . . .

"A whopping 90 percent of over 1,000 people surveyed by TOI-TNS [Times of India and the marketing firm TNS]— across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bangalore— said their prayers worked. . . .

"[Mumbai and Hyderabad] have shown almost unquestioning faith in divinity, believing in miracles (77 percent and 92 percent), that prayer heals because God hears our prayers (78 percent and 81 percent), that prayers at temples/mosques/ churches are more effective (88 percent and 82 percent) . . . .
