Symptoms of pink eye quickly healed

One morning a few months ago when I woke up, one of my eyes felt as if there was an eyelash in it, and it was a bit itchy. I got up and looked in the mirror. The eye was swollen and showed all the evidence of conjunctivitis, or pink eye. A few months before, others in our office had had to stay home for a week because of this condition.

I knew I needed to pray about this condition before I went in to work. Then I recalled what I have learned in Christian Science—that disease is never in the body, but the body responds to what we're holding in consciousness. I had been reading from an article called "Spirit and Law," by Mary Baker Eddy, just before I looked in the mirror, and this passage had caught my attention: "Whatever appears to be law, but partakes not of the nature of God, is not law, but is what Jesus declared it, 'a liar, and the father of it.' God is the law of Life, not of death; of health, not of sickness; of good, not of evil" (Miscellaneous Writings 1883—1896, p. 259). I knew I had to make an effort to spiritualize my thinking—to correct the view that I was separate from God and that my identity was constituted of organic matter with a disease developing in the body.

I remembered the Bible story of a lame man at the temple gate called Beautiful, who was healed by Peter and John (see Acts 3:1-10). The account says that the man's "feet and ankle bones received strength." This passage in the story always reminds me that our ability to do anything comes directly from God. In prayer we can see that our health and all our faculties are intact, eternal, and entirely spiritual because they come from God.
