FROM SUCCESS TO SIGNIFICANCE
Author and entrepreneur Bob Buford on the seasons of life
Bob Buford once asked Willard Fuller, founder and leader of the organization Habitat for Humanity, who is almost 70, whether he'd ever heard of "this thing called retirement."
"Sure I have," Fuller said jokingly. "I remember the words of Jesus, who said, 'Take up your cross until you're 65, then lay it down; then take up your fishing pole, and move to Florida!'"
Pressed for more serious comment, Fuller explained that he'd never found the concept of retirement mentioned in the Bible. "It's pretty clear that when God calls somebody, it's for the duration." And, he said, there are many ways open to us, at any age, to fulfil God's calling.
