'Safe and in control'

A couple of weeks ago, I was driving home from work. I had the windows of my car open. The traffic was moving very well and at a fairly high speed. Because of something that had bothered me earlier in the day, I felt an urge to pray. It's natural for me to turn to God with anything that I'm confronted with in my life, so I began what I like to call my "dialogue with God."

Just a few minutes after I had started to pray, I noticed off in the distance some shiny, sparkling debris floating around in the air. My first thought was, "Oh, how pretty—what is this?" As I approached this section of the highway, I realized that this debris was actually tiny shards of metal, something like sheet metal that must have blown off a truck.

I immediately closed all my windows, and when I glanced back to the road, I noticed that the car in front of me had come to a stop. I was able to put on my brakes in time to avoid hitting the car. At the same time, looking in my rearview mirror, I noticed a big van coming right toward me. It didn't look as if it was going to stop in time to avoid hitting me.
