Sitting in a heavenly place

YEARS AGO when our children were in high school, I seemed to spend as much time in the car as they did sitting at their desks. At the time, our children needed to be driven to school as well as to after–school activities, parties, part–time jobs, and so forth. It felt as if my whole life was spent behind the steering wheel.

At one point, I became quite resentful. However, knowing that resentment does more harm than good, I began to pray about it, basing my prayers on some favorite Bible passages.

The answer came swiftly and with the transforming power I'd come to expect from the Scriptures—in this case, the Apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians. After speaking of God's great love for us and His richness in mercy, Paul wrote that God had "raised us up together [with Christ], and made us sit together in heavenly places" (Eph. 2:6).
