Prayer overcomes pneumonia and blood infection

In November 2001, an illness I had struggled with earlier worsened. I called the Christian Science practitioner who had prayed for me before, and also engaged a Christian Science nurse to come to my home. Church friends also visited and brought food. The nurse eventually realized that I needed additional care, so she called a Christian Science nursing facility. No beds were available there. So I was taken to a hospital.

A friend who accompanied me in the ambulance asked the doctor in the emergency room if the hospital would admit me for nursing care. He said, "You don't have to be concerned about us admitting her. She has a serious blood infection. The situation is really touch and go." I was given emergency care and various tests. The diagnosis was, in addition to the infection, double pneumonia and impending kidney failure. The doctor's prognosis was that the condition was probably incurable and that, in any event, I would never be free of all the symptoms.

Let me say here that, when I was three, my mother was left bedridden and in a very weakened condition by the birth of her fourth child. A friend told her about Christian Science, gave her a copy of Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health, and a Christian Science practitioner was called to pray for her. In a very short time, Mother was well and caring for all of us. Ever since then, God has been my only Physician and prayer my only medicine.
