Humility brings healing of poison ivy
Last summer I developed a severe poison ivy rash on my legs and a painful fever blister on my lip. They appeared overnight and left me in great discomfort.
My first thought was to pray about them because I have relied on God's help in countless situations, and I knew I could find a spiritual resolution to these problems. Initially, I prayed to understand better what the Bible teaches—that because God is entirely good and fills all space, it isn't possible that He could send disease or infection or irritation of any kind to His beloved children. Nevertheless, the conditions persisted.
After about the third day with no improvement, I silently asked God just what I needed to understand in prayer in order to heal this condition. I opened Science and Health, and my eyes fell on this passage: "Anatomy, when conceived of spiritually, is mental self-knowledge, and consists in the dissection of thoughts to discover their quality, quantity, and origin. Are thoughts divine or human? That is the important question.... The anatomy of Christian Science teaches when and how to probe the self-inflicted wounds of selfishness, malice, envy, and hate.... The Christian Scientist, through understanding mental anatomy, discerns and deals with the real cause of disease" (pp. 462-463).
