Intestinal disorder cured, a new career launched
Recently at my church, we sang a hymn that includes two verses I've often used as prayers during difficult times. I'd like to tell about one of those times because the physical healing and change in employment that occurred have been landmarks in my spiritual journey.
About 14 years ago, I suffered from an intestinal disorder that nearly made me housebound. The symptoms seemed to be a lot like colitis. I had a ten-minute drive to work. And often I could not complete that trip without an unscheduled restroom stop or two.
At that time, things at work changed drastically. My employer gave me two choices—promotion or unemployment. The real challenge, though, was that the promotion involved driving to a store located in a suburb of Pittsburgh. The commute would be an hour and a half each way and would take me through parts of Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. It required coping regularly with three separate rush-hour regularly with three separate rush-hour traffic james in each direction. Given my physical condition at the time, this seemed impossible. I decided to try it for a week, and ended up making that journey every day for five years. There were many difficult situations to face during those years.
