Burma's democratic resistance leader, 1991 Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, has been under house arrest most of the time since 1989. She can't leave the country because if she does, she will probably be forbidden to return. And the generals running the nation refuse to let her family visit her in Myanmar (formerly Burma).
When a reporter asked if she was frightened by the isolation and danger, she said, "Why should I be frightened? ... You cannot really be frightened of people you do not hate. Hate and fear go hand in hand."
