To Our Readers

Recently The Wall Street Journal did some forecasting regarding women in the workplace. The question they put to three experts was, Will women ever gain employment parity with men? One of the respondents, an anthropologist and author, said she believed that in some jobs they would, but in others, never. Another respondent, also an author, felt that women would soon gain parity with men, especially with the advent of e-commerce, allowing for flexible hours. The third person, a former president of the National Organization for Women, believed that parity would not happen anytime soon, and that any positive gains for women will come only with an intense struggle.

The author of our Cover Story, Elise Moore, has her own observations. "The glass ceiling of the 80s and 90s may well be a sunroof in the twenty-first century" she comments, "moving back to allow freedom of movement upward."

What propels that upward movement is the subject of Mrs. Moore's article, which draws on lessons learned from her own experience in the workplace as well as from a Bible story that's "a typical glass ceiling scenario," as she calls it. This is inspiring reading for men as well as for women.
