Child's earache quickly cured
I woke in the night, just before Easter Sunday, to our preschool daughter's cries from an earache. I immediately went to her and comforted her in my arms while sharing spiritual truths with her. I urgently thought, "OK, God, what do You want me to know?" His quick response to me: "I'm all ears." I smiled at the thought of this American expression, meaning "You have my undivided attention," and I also smiled at the image that came to me of an Easter rabbit with huge ears. This moment of levity broke the mesmerism of my fear. I realized that God is doing all the hearing here, and that He doesn't hear fear or pain. He hears only good.
Our daughter calmly returned to sleep. She woke again in pain an hour or two later, but I immediately clung to the thought of God, "I'm all ears," with complete trust in this reminder of His all-hearing, all-knowing, and all-seeing of good only. She promptly went back to sleep, and that was the end of the problem.
