A textbook for humanity

An interview with Virginia S. Harris, Publisher of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

Virginia Harris , in addition to being the Publisher of The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy, is a Christian Science practitioner and teacher, as well as a member of The Christian Science Board of Directors. She speaks in this interview about the place of Science and Health in today's climate of spiritual inquisitiveness.

Q: This year not only marks the 125th anniversary of Science and Health but also the coming of a new millennium. You've described this period as a unique "season of thought"—what do you mean by that?

A; I think what we're seeing today is a significant step in humanity's spiritual development. Mary Baker Eddy spoke of the millennium as "a state and stage of mental advancement, going on since ever time was." And she saw this mental progress advancing "till all men shall know Him. ..." (Miscellany, pp. 239, 240). This is what's happening in the world today—there's a forwarding of that millennial thought of all knowing God. It has nothing to do with the calendar, of course. It is an opening of thought to a fuller embrace of the spiritual nature of man.
