CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN

I would like to tell about my very best companion—the [O]ne who rides with me, and has for many years. I was on my way to the International WOW [Women On Wheels] Ride-In in Washington State in 1995. I started out packed with lots of desire and, of course, faith for a good journey.

Leaving Michigan, I traveled [by motorcycle] through Indiana and Illinois, and ended my first day in Iowa. The next day, I . . . stayed . . . in Cheyenne, Wyoming. On the third day, I started early because I wanted to cross over the Grand Tetons and end up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for the night. . . . But I had neglected to make reservations ahead of time, and it was the 4th of July. Needless to say—there were no rooms in the inn. . . .

At this point, it was raining very hard, thundering and lightning, and black, really black, even though it was only 6 p.m. ... I felt the need to go on to the next city, which was Idaho Falls, Idaho [89 miles away].... The road was narrow, car lights bright in the front and from behind. It was raining so hard that I could not see through the windshield of my Goldwing, so I had to stand upright on the foot pegs. I prayed and even cried out to God (my companion) for [H]is help, strength, and courage. I even felt for a brief moment that I just couldn't handle this one.
