MAINTAINED BY GOD
I love the idea that God maintains us. That's a concept I found in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. She writes, "The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness" (p. 151). Isn't that a wonderful thought! Not only did God make each and every one of us, but He maintains us as well.
Several years ago I learned that God's care and maintenance are always available. When I was still in college, I had a throat problem that made it necessary for me to leave school. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to treat me through prayer. As we talked, I realized that I was troubled by a relationship that I didn't feel comfortable in but didn't know how to get out of.
Throughout this time, I began to understand God better. I learned that the most important relationship is the one I have with God, as His image, or spiritual idea. This other personal relationship had been turning me away from God. As I pondered and accepted my true relation to God, the throat condition was healed and never returned. I was also able to break off the relationship and still remain friends with the person.
