To Our Readers

Do You Know what is the largest topographical formation on Earth? It's a mountain range that's forty-thousand miles long, with elevations up to two miles. Something so incredibly immense, and yet most people have never seen it. That's because it is underneath the ocean.

The mid-ocean ridge system, as it's called, was mapped out by oceanographers nearly fifty years ago. Hard to believe that something so enormous exists below the surface.

Then again, maybe that's not so surprising. A growing number of people, myself included, believe there are big things going on below the surface of everyday life, such as the spirituality movement. On the surface, it may not be readily apparent that such a movement is taking place. Commuters continue their trek to and from work, schools bustle with the usual activity, crowds still gather in the shopping malls on the weekend. But in bookstores these days, for one example, there is a noticeable difference in the landscape. You're likely to see a section of books—the spirituality section—taking up more and more shelf space. Spirituality continues to be the fastest growing topic in American book publishing. Cyberspace, too, is teeming with spiritual seekers, young ones in particular. Web sites that offer spiritual material report a marked rise in visitors.
