School grades improve

During a recent visit, my granddaughter told us she raised her grade from failing to a C in just two weeks. It brought to mind how my grades had slipped in high school. The principal talked to me and told me that I might not be graduating with my classmates, but said that I could go to the graduation ceremony and receive a blank diploma. The thought of this gave me nightmares, as you can imagine. I knew I had to change my way of thinking and get down to business or I would be left behind.

First on my list was to start to devote more time to study. Science and Health states, "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible" (p. 199). Of course, before studying my school subjects, I prayed and asked God to help me. I love where the Bible says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Phil. 4:13). I prayed, and I studied the Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) along with my school lessons, and I used lots of elbow grease. I knew I couldn't be haphazard in my attempt to better my school grades.

One passage from Science and Health was especially helpful to me in improving my thinking: "A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity" (p. 128). As I prayed, I put self-centeredness and self-pity behind me.
