Friendship restored

At one point a very good friend of mine had not been well for some time and was preparing to go on holiday abroad on her own. She had had a difference of opinion with mutual friend and refused to speak to her. I suggested that she contact this person and resume their good relationship. Instead of doing so, she flew into a rage, leaving me shattered and hurt. I tried to contact her to make it up, but to no avail. She departed on the following Saturday without contacting either of us.

When I got home from work the Wednesday after she left, I felt very ill and fainted. As I regained consciousness, this message was coming to me: "The divine understanding reigns, is all, and there is no other consciousness" (Science and Health, p. 536). I rose, went to my bedroom, and thought this sentence through. I realized there could be no misunderstanding in the divine understanding. The fact that "there is no other consciousness" meant to me that there was no consciousness to be hurt, here or abroad. My thought was at peace immediately, and I was healed instantaneously. I went to the kitchen, served the family's evening meal, and attended the testimony meeting at church that evening completely at peace and well.

Within a few days I got a cordial letter from my friend abroad and a telephone call from our mutual friend, who had also received a pleasant letter from her. When my friend returned from overseas, she spent the weekend with me. The disagreement was not even mentioned.
