From material to spiritual medicine—a mental journey

Because the homeopathic healing arts were not living up to many of his expectations, Robert Ennemoser, a former homeopathic physician, began a search for more far-reaching methods of healing. Through that search he found Christian Science. Although, as he told us, he didn't understand this method at first, he submitted its efficacy to a down-to-earth, unbiased test. Originally writing for Der Christian Science Herold, Dr. Ennemoser discusses some of the central points about the Science of Christianity that have become clear to him on his spiritual journey. Today, Dr. Ennemoser is a Christian Science practitioner in Austria.

God is omnipresent. The medicine of Spirit is available at every time, in every place, in every situation. Spiritual medicine does not first need to be picked up at the drugstore. As I learned to pray and heal, this advantage became indispensable to me. You gain confidence when, for example, you're with someone, as I was, who gets stung by a lot of wasps out in the middle of the woods and experiences a complete healing right away. Such healings are simple and natural because of what one Christian Scientist described as the outstanding "educational program" offered by the Church of Christ, Scientist, through such provisions as church services, Sunday Schools, Reading Rooms, lectures, Bible Lessons, and the opportunity to have Primary class instruction.

"Spirit is positive," Mary Baker Eddy declares in Science and Health (p. 173). I was very pleasantly surprised to find this scientific, Christian healing method, having no side effects. For many doctors the harmful side effects that go along with material methods of treatment are one of the major problems of conventional medicine. In my own experience, even the so-called "initial reaction" phase of traditional homeopathy often represents a considerable burden for patients.
