One evening I was riding my bike home

One evening I was riding my bike home. Although there are very few streetlights, I am familiar with the way. I was speeding downhill when a car turned onto the road and headed in my direction. It momentarily blinded me with the glare of its head-lights. When I could again see where I was going, I discovered I was off the road, and directly in front of me was a steel post. The next thing I was conscious of was that I was sitting on the road, a woman was leaning over me, and a man was asking for my telephone number. I saw that my bike was several feet away and the front of my jacket was badly torn.

After giving my phone number, I again was unaware of what was going on around me until I was standing in my bedroom and my husband was helping me. When I realized where I was and grasped something of what had happened, I started to pray. My husband helped me to lie down, and telephoned a practitioner who immediately began to pray for me.

I thought I would just lie there and rely on the store of spiritual truths I already knew, but I couldn't get comfortable, so with great difficulty I got up and went to my study. Reaching out to God in prayer, I turned to the Christian Science textbook, opening it to the page where I had last been reading. Here Mrs. Eddy says, "Neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses" (Science and Health, p. 214). I continued reading and praying around the clock for the next two days because I couldn't lie down. Loved Bible verses, assuring me of God's presence and power, came to thought, A verse in Psalms reminded me that as we trust God we can never be confused. I knew I could never have been outside of God's care. After the second day, I told the practitioner that I was confident I could continue praying on my own.
