Praying for the world
A Tragedy was unfolding in Rwanda and Zaire, but I couldn't bear to think about it. It was emotionally devastating, and I found myself turning away from television newscasts and even dreading to open The Christian Science Monitor for fear of hearing about the sick and starving people there.
Yet I yearned to alleviate the suffering I saw, to have some part in the healing process. What, I asked God, could I do? Pray, yes; but how? And then I realized that this terribly cruel and muddled world was not of God's design! It was only the supposititious opposite of what was good and true about His creation as outlined in Genesis 1:31, when God finished His work and saw that "it was very good."
We don't need to remake the world into a better place with better people. God has already created it perfect. This perfection is what we need to see in place of the seeming opposite. We need to waken thought to the truth of man and the universe as they truly are.
