Moved on, not laid off

Have you been laid off, fired on short notice, or are you worried that you may be? I know these thoughts and fears. I have been laid off suddenly and unexpectedly myself, and yet today, although past retiring age, I am still working and all my needs have been met. I would like to share with you what has helped me to see that security does not depend on any company or individual or job but is directly dependent upon God, the one source of all good.

When I was first told that I was to be laid off, I instantly declared to myself that God gives me all that I need. I knew from my study of the Bible that God is Love and that He is my Father. A loving Father would not permit His son to be in want. I knew that God supplies His children constantly with inspiration and fresh ideas, so I was able to face the prospect of dismissal with calmness and confidence.

When asked if I wanted to leave immediately or work out the rest of the month, I opted to work. Through the following days I listened for God's guidance, knowing and trusting that I would be shown what to do. I remembered Christ Jesus' words "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matt. 6:8). I set about eliminating all fear and resentment from my thought and tried to be even more conscientious in my work.
