Children's Sabbaths
Preparations are underway in the United States for the 1995 observance of Children's Sabbaths in churches and synagogues across the nation. Since 1992, this venture has been sponsored by the Children's Defense Fund in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with a wide range of denominations and religious organizations.
In an interview with the Sentinel, the Defense Fund's director of religious affairs, Shannon Daley, explained that its purpose is to encourage a commitment among people everywhere to help children and families through prayer, education, service, and advocacy.
The theme of last year's Children's Sabbaths was the urgent need to protest the escalating violence against children, and recently, by children. This year the theme will be poverty and its toll on children and the nation.
