What lies behind job satisfaction?

Has your job, whether in the business world or at home, ever lost its challenge or enjoyment for you? Perhaps you felt it was because of the people with whom you associated. Or because of influences such as the economy, management decisions, or company policy. What if we are facing loss of work or a demotion or seem stuck in a job we feel we've outgrown? When faced with a job situation that seems unfulfilling, we may need to rouse ourselves to an inspired sense of progress and see how this applies to our work.

Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy provides unique insight on progress. It states, "Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress" (p. 170). This spiritually based perspective turns us to an understanding that God is the cause of all that is real—that He impels and governs all right activity.

The Science of Christianity is invaluable in gaining an understanding of spiritual causation. It reveals that man is subject to God alone. This spiritually enlightened point of view progressively releases us from the fear of, or trust in, any other influence said to impel or control our careers. It helps us do our jobs with more confidence, because we discern that we are directed, encouraged, and rewarded by God, who is wholly good.
