One Halloween night I went horseback riding in the Hollywood...
One Halloween night I went horseback riding in the Hollywood hills near Los Angeles with my boyfriend and some other friends. Along the way we enjoyed the clear, moonlit sky and panoramic views of the city lights.
On the journey back to the stables, my horse became very competitive, kicking and nudging her way past the other horses to the front of the line. Our trail guide's attempts to calm this mare were to no avail. Suddenly she took off at full speed. When my feet flew out of the stirrups, I held the reins and pulled hard on them. But instead of stopping, the horse reared up, and I fell off her back.
The other riders caught up with me and saw that I could not get up. They were all Christian Scientists, and as they came to my aid they began singing hymns to comfort me. Their care helped calm me. One man offered to go back to the stables and call a Christian Science practitioner for me.
