I was not introduced to Christian Science until almost a teenager, when my mother began to study it. My first recollection involving this faith is of visiting a Christian Science practitioner.
Approximately ten years later I was experiencing severe emotional distress. My life was a farce—it appeared to be in order, but in actuality it was not, because of my overwhelming depression. I hated life so much that I often entertained thoughts of ending it, and even wrote a suicide note one day. Most of my time alone was spent crying.
Around this time I began attending a Christian Science church on a regular basis with my mother, who had since become a Christian Scientist. With her encouragement I started to study the Bible and Science and Health in earnest. I'm not aware exactly when the healing of suicidal thoughts occurred, but they disappeared from my consciousness. The ungodlike qualities that I had been expressing—such as depression, low self-esteem, and lack of compassion for others—were replaced with good attitudes and behavior.
