The First Commandment: being loyal to God
If God had competitors—even one competitor—He would not be God.
What makes God God is His supremacy: He is greater than all. He is the perfect Principle of being. As the one infinite Spirit, the source and imparter of all good, His standard and action are always at the point of unsurpassable perfection. His authority is total, and it always results in blessings. We have no need of any other god, and there is none other.
God deserves and requires our unswerving loyalty. Thus, we have the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3).
