God's gift of happiness
Joy that lasts isn't a vain wish but is a spiritual reality.
How natural it is to want to be happy. In fact, how natural it is to be happy. The reason is that happiness is a gift of God. Every individual has access to this gift. It is so normal to receive a gift that God Himself gives and for it to be an unfluctuating presence in our lives.
The constancy of what divine Love provides is solidly indicated in the Bible promise "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Mary Baker Eddy emphasizes the divine source of true satisfaction with her comment in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love." Furthermore, she rejects the theory that happiness fluctuates according to materiality. Pointing to its changeless source, she explains further along in the book: "Divine Principle is the Life of man. Man's happiness is not, therefore, at the disposal of physical sense."
